What is MiTH? : I am! That is my name. It’s not my real name. (See: this post.) My real name is something much more “basic millennial American white girl,” which is what I am.
Why do you call yourself the “White Trash TradCath?” : because I’m what they call a “Radical Traditionalist” Catholic (the kind that does things the old school way, with the Latin and veils and chanting and all), but, I don’t really fit in with the elite TradCath subculture. I’m worse! Yes, I’m a homeschooling stay-at-home mom of four, but I’m also a painfully awkward weirdo with avoidant personality disorder, bad taste in music, an art school degree, zero domestic sensibility, and a bunch of ugly tattoos. Long story short, I don’t seem to fit in too well with other Catholic mommies, or anywhere tbh, which sense of “not belonging”/“not fitting in” is kind of the theme of my life and of this blog.
What is this blog? : it’s called MiTHology because it’s just a personal blog about yours truly; version “4.0” because, I’ve tried multiple times to keep a blog over the years; in fact, the original MiTHology was a Livejournal way back in the day (lol). Why do I do this? I’m very self-conscious about the pointlessness of a personal blog. Like who cares, right? I have no actual expertise and there is no particular reason why you should read this blog. Why then do I keep on blogging? To scream into the void, I guess? To just think out loud? To experiment with vulnerability? In hopes of meeting friends?? tbh I’m not even sure, but here we are!
Topics I like to talk about include but are not limited to
Catholic stuff, moral quandaries that keep me up at night, life with avoidant personality disorder (AVPD), recovery from alcoholism & eating disorders, pregnancy and parenting, books, movies, media & tv (especially baking competition shows!), and music. I also like to sort things into top ten lists for fun, and sometimes post a bit of fiction if I’m feeling unusually bold.
If you’d like to communicate with me, or would like the password to certain protected posts, please feel free to send an email, I would love to hear from you. I’m also kind of on pinterest.
